Medically impaired drivers are one of the most significant, but preventable, public health issues faced by Albertans and other Canadians.

The Medically At-Risk Driver Centre (MARD) is a University of Alberta-based centre with world-class standing that uses innovative research and stakeholder collaboration. The MARD Centre is committed to:

  • Enhancing the safety and mobility for medically at-risk drivers and for all road users;
  • Reducing the social and health impacts and economic costs associated with medically impaired drivers for the benefit of all Albertans; and
  • Improving the quality of life and safety for medically at-risk drivers and for all Albertans.

The Medically At-Risk Driver Centre is unique with its emphasis on partnership driven, innovative, science based solutions to a preventable public health issue.
